I recently cancelled my Sky as I learned I was paying over double that of a
new customer and they would not give me a discount - despite 12 years
unbroken record with them. It goes off in April.

I have had enough of the them now and also paying for numerous repeats and
long advert breaks.

Does anyone here know how an EXISTING customer can get a deal?

Other than a raw one?

Can you not Cancel it and when it goes off go back to them as a new
customer? technically once the contract as ended are you not a "free agent"
and if you wanted to ,you could go back as a "new" customer?
Im not sure so hopefully someone can clear it up for you!

You are certainly a free agent but you're never a "new" customer again and
are therefore excluded from the new customer deals.

Sky regard you as a previous customer regardless of circumstances otherwise
we'd all cancel and resubscribe just to get the latest offers.

Didn't you get a special offer when you were new?

Only to the extent that they can extract money from them. :-)

Cynical I know but essentially accurate.

I'm sure he did - most people got a free Digibox+dish+cabling+telephone
extension which all becomes your property instantly from day one; and
separately, the cost of the installation being subsidised to £40.

Why would they? It's not as if there is anywhere else to go if they
want to watch the Sky channels.

Sky has a captive audience but there are plenty of customers that would
cancel their subscription for a month in order to get a good deal.

I'd do it myself if I could.

And you think Sky haven't already thought of that?

As it was so long ago when I signed up I probably did get an inducement as a
new customer although looking back through all the stuff I have however, I
cannot find anything - and i certainly did not get anything like half price
for any length of time let alone 12 months.

As time as gone by Sky has got more expensive and I can no longer justify
£47 per month for what is essentially loots of repeats and lengthy advert
breaks. ( i have Sky Movies and 6 mixes and multiroom with 2 Sky+ boxes)

OH enjoys only one channel on a regular basis which she will miss - but even
she agrees it's not worth the money now.

What is galling is to me is not the fact that inducements are being used to
sign up new customers - it's the length of time these will apply for - 12
months is a long inducement whilst the rest of us pay full price.

I know it's the same with other things, mortgages especially - with new
customers getting better deals than existing and sometimes long term loyal
ones - but it's not so easy (or quick) to just say stuff the mortgage.

It is quick and easy to say stuff Sky.

saying. :-)

The thing that is really annoying me at the moment is all the offers to
attract Virgin customers.

Where I live I cannot get cable, and can only get broadband via BT
Wholesale, so their combo offers are absolutely useless to me.

Would like to order HD, but very reluctant until there is at least some
small incentive.
