A little while ago, whilst refilling the bird feeders, I chucked a
handful of bird seed onto the miniscule patch of earth that is my flower bed, just to see what would happen. And now I have a sunflower. Isn't life grand! |

One summer, some years back, there used to be a solitary sunflower growing in about the narrowest most ballasty, least soil coated bit of central reservation on the M3 near Winchester, used to drive past it everyday watching it grow, then suddenly, one day, it was gone. Keep meaning to empty a bag of sunflower seed out the car window when I drive down that way, but always forget. |
