I'm surprised no-one else has mentioned this yet, but what is the
collective view on the new Dr Who series?

I certainly enjoyed it and will follow the series, a random sample of
Black Sheep taken last night seems to suggest we liked it - anyone else
care to comment?

I really enjoyed it, and I was very skeptical about it, sill not in the
class of the Pertwee era though, but its better than star trek, buffy etc

I grew up on Pertwee era Dr Who, and while hiding behind the sofa wasn't
possible (we had uber-fashionable built-in seating round the table in
the lounge), hiding in the kitchen and watching by peering round the
doorway was.

Most of it has of course long since vanished into a tardis-shaped blur,
but I still remember some creatures from the deep who's hands could burn
through steel doors on some oil-rig like place, and also a t-rex that
came back to life and smashed it's way through several layers of
"unbreakable" glass.

I don't suppose anything will ever quite compare to the wonder of those
days, but I did really like the new one. Nice to see 45 minute episodes
too, IIRC the originals were only half an hour each.

The humour was good too, esp the bit that went something like:
"Hello, I'm the Doctor, pleased to meet you, now run for your life!"

Personally, I was quite impressed.

I had misgivings before I saw it, mainly due to the media hype (let's
not mention the hideous mangled failure that was the Dr Who TV movie -
I would like to think one of the reasons they didn't have the on-screen
reincarnation), but I really enjoyed it - the air of menace was there,
and Billie Piper as the assistant was surprisingly not cringe-worthy.
If the rest of the series lives up to the first episode, I will at last
have something worth recording on a Saturday evening.

In answer to your question, it doth indeed rock like a large lump of
granite upon a sturdy fulcrum.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. Though it seemed to be a cross
between one of the really old Dr Whos and Terminator II. The trailer
for the next one looks a bit Star Wars-y to me.

Let's hope they can come up with some realtively original ideas, or I
fear it may not last...

I did like it though!

I liked it, and I have *never* seen the appeal of Dr Who before.

I really didn't. It's not a patch on the originals. CG looks crap,
don't like the Tardis interior, and he just doesn't work as the Doctor.

I thought that was really pants having a 'next time' bit. Very cheesey,
and very unlike Doctor Who.

I really enjoyed it - I like Dr Who anyway and enjoy watching the
reruns early on Saturday/Sunday morning (thank you UK Gold and hungry
cat!). There wasn't much of a story to this episode, but I guess after
so long a whole new audience has to be introduced to the Doctor.

Now they have to give us a plot that hold up.

And Mr. Ecclestone - he's acquired a whole new air of sauciness ;)

I didn't find it anywhere near as bad as I expected, the blonde chav girl
assistant was actually OK. I was a little disappointed with the Tardis,
why change the interior. I thought they were successful with keeping the
plot ultra simple and possibly scary although I'm not sure who the
target audience really are and whether they'd be a scared as I possible was
with the originals. Overall I think they did a good job and I'll watch it
next week, but won't lose any days sleep if I miss it, well I can always
download it anyway. I'd like to know what kids today think of it.

I really hated that too but it seams to be the stlye for all TV drama if
they are going to have a trailer than have it AFTER the end titles.

One thin gi dont like though it it appears that each stroy will be basically
1 45 minute episode, Id prefer it if it were 2x 23 minute episodes with a
cliffhanger or 4 - 6 23 minute episodes likes it used to be!

Best
