Interesting but I don't use the laptop often enough to faff with it. Might
do though if I was intending to use it without access to a power point so
I've bookmarked it.

I hope it's useful for those who seem to use their laptops outside a lot.

That's useful. Thanks.

There aren't usually (m)any power sockets in a graveyard or cemetery
and it's much easier to transcribe headstones straight to the laptop
than handwrite them, then transfer them to the laptop at home: less
chance of errors creeping in.

When I was recording MIs from my rellies' headstones I treated them like
brass rubbings - sheets of A3 paper, sometimes even A2, and a heelball that
I got from a friendly cobbler and away I went!

It's so much easier now with digital cameras. Sticks of different coloured
chalks come in handy if any of the lettering needs enhancing.

Chalk is supposed to be a bad thing to use as it can permanently stain
the headstone.

The recommended way is to use a torch or lamp and to shine the light
(no, that's not a cue of a song ;)) ) at an angle across the stone. A
mirror is also useful for reflecting the light.

There are two headstones in Walton (Street) that I can't read easily.
The lettering is very worn but it is there. I've just got to find the
time to get there again.

I always wash it off as soon as my work is done, so I don't think it'll do
much damage.
