Just changing from Pentax to Canon. Most of my photos are of motorsport or
of hill walking so camera must be robust, light, ( an impossible
contradiction?) and a degree of water resistance is desirable.

Which model in their range, preferably SH, should I look for?

Hmm, I've got two which I've had for several years - no problems
whatsoever - great camera as far as I'm concerned.

That may be so - but there have been numerous reported cases in newsgroups
and mailing lists where this has happened, so there is most definitely a
problem there. There is even a company in the US that will modify them to
prevent this. And I speak as a victim of EOS 5 command dial breakage, in my
case within a year of buying it new.

Other than that I agree it is a great body.

Lucky you! Many people have had a lot of expensive trouble with the
command dial. Why do you think a service firm (in USA) goes to the
trouble of advertising a 'permanent' solution?
