It's a question only you can answer, Bill. One can soon compile a list of
changes but nobody else will know if they're useful to you and how much.
Also, only you know your budget (and how much you're prepared to flex it).

Another factor is, of course, how much of an investment you've made in
Canon or Canon-fit lenses. If little, you might want to switch to another
make.

If you're staying with Canon and money's tight, I would also look at the
20D, which is available in reconditioned form at low prices. The spec's
not so far away from the 30D.

I can afford to splash a bit but not as far as a D5.

I suppose behind my question really was a desire to see if anyone rekons the
picture quality from the D30 will be an improvement on the 10D, but as yet
no-one has mentioned that so I guess the answer must be "No"

At dpreview and probably on other review-sites too, you can compare
sample images and see if _you_ find it worth the extra money.

The biggest limitation as far as picture quality is concerned is the
Generally low optical quality of modern optics

The Manual focus zooms that I bought in the early eighties still far out
perform the modern lenses that I used with my 10 & 20D's
