The depth to which we will cover you depends on your qualification, in all cases, diving must be under the direction of an accredited dive marshall, instructor or guide and within the guidelines of the relevant diving or training agency or organisation. For PADI qualified divers the limits of our cover are: Open Water - 18 metres; Advanced Open Water - 30 metres; Advanced Plus - 40 metres. For BSAC qualified divers the limits of our cover are: Club Diver - 20 metres; Sports Diver - 35 metres; Dive Leader - 50 metres" So you are only covered when with an Instructor/DM etc. What happens if you are BSAC and the DM you are with is PADI? Whose "guidelines" should you follow? As depths limits are specified absolutly, what happens when you are at a dive to 18m, and momentarly drop below this depth for a short period? (the 18m depth restriction on PADI OW is only recommended and not an absolute limit.) What happens if during a dive your buddy gets into trouble, and you drop below the depth limit in order to assist them, where you then require assistance yourself? You then have a problem and attempt to claim - straight away your claim will be thrown out. I have heard of this happening before with other insurers. The policy I have currently from Scubasure does not state a depth limit, with the exclusion being "deliberatly putting yourself at risk unless trying to save someones life", and that "you should not dive alone" - but not restricted to DM/Intructor etc/so as long as you dive within your experience you are covered. |

I note what you say and you maybe right but I do no wish to get into an
argument about insurance. I have not dived without a dive guide for a while as I am not so young and do not dive as much as I used to :-((((( End October I am off to my liveaboard which will be more than sufficiently guided I think. I shall be in contact with the company to see what they say. This year I dived in Spain (L'Estartit) there was a question in my mind as to whether I was covered for recompression chamber treatment or not. They came up with an immediate answer that I was. Eddie You pays your money and you takes your choice! :-))))) "Clive" <clive> wrote in message news:0548 > > Whilst the policy is cheap it is also rather restrictive. > > "We cover scuba diving at no additional premium. You have opened my eyes in some respects. I shall be enquiring a little deeper when and if I want to do some diving away from dive marshalls. The other side of my insurance policy is that when I reach the OAP age of 65, in three years time, my payments are going to go skywards. I was diving with a wonderful group of mid 70 year old divers last year around Sharm and they were relating their difficulties in getting any kind of diving insurance. That being said it is wonderful to have both the health and the ability to actually dive into my dotage! ;-)))))) Eddie |
