BW imply it is up to us - the customers - to report problems and
comment on the canal system. This last trip we took them at their word and used their pre-addressed comment cards. (These being supplied by various BW lock workers from the piles they are issued with.) We were out for a number of weeks and for much of that time we travelled in the massive area controlled from Nantwich and covering the Welsh canals, the Shropshire Union, the Caldon, much of the Macclesfield and a large chunk of the Trent & Mersey canal. To the Nantwich office we sent in no less than 13 cards covering a period from mid May to the end of June. Most were critical but at least one was complimentary. A printed message on each card states that those who require a reply should fill in an address. With this in mind all cards sent had a return address, though much of the rest of the overlarge cards we used for comments rather than fill in the questionaire - the extent of which must keep a good number of bean-counters employed. We also only sent in the English part of the card as the cards are in fact two connected half-foolscap sized sheets of cardboard with the whole questionaire lot printed on one half in English and on one in Welsh. (We used the Welsh half in each case to keep a copy of the message sent in on the English half.) So 13 cards sent and here we are a month later waiting for any reply or even an acknowledgement that BW Nantwich got the cards and are dealing with them. At which point one can only wonder if they are really interested in what we say. And is this customer comment card thing another expensive BW media exercise to seem open to our suggestions while in actual fact they ignore them? |

As Sue says - one assumes the pre-printed address on the cards they are issuing gets to the right place. |

BW - Northwich office has been there in its current function for at least forty years to my knowledge. Probably a lot longer. You could perhaps argue that they are due for a move ! Anyway where-ever it is now they don't respond which is my point so stop being a self rightous twit splitting hairs and missing the whole point of the original message! |

One of my cards commented on the good work of the Bosley chaps. Another on how neglected one of the great lock groups of our canals down Heartbreak hill looked unloved and how a foreign canal engineer said to us that in his county such locks would be a showpiece and not what BW had let them become. So, even though BW (at Northwich) have still not bothered to reply or even acknowledge my cards maybe someone has actually read them ------------- or maybe not. |
