What's the most ludicrous application of a rule anyone has seen where the
intent of the rule has been completely forgotten or deliberately ignored in
the application of that rule to gain advantage ?

Personally ..... local rule on a hole at my club alongside railway states on
a sign at the tee that any player making a shot whilst a train is passing
receives a two point penalty. Fine off the tee but I did hear of someone
claiming victory on the hole in matchplay because their opposition putted
out whilst a train was passing !

Do we not forget sportsmanship too often ?

I would really like to have a photograph of that sign. Could you
post one on the web somewhere?

Maybe they don't want people to hit while the train is going by in the
hopes that a bad shot will bounce off the train and stay in bounds.
