Can anybody let me know exactly how this is meant to work? I've checked
itv-f1.com and all it mentions is two 10 lap mini races, one on the Friday,
the other on the Saturday. As for further details, it suggests buying a
magazine... Just wondering whether I can find out on the cheap? ;-)

OK, to save you all considerable sums of money:

1) Friday: Draw for all 20 drivers
2) Friday: 10 lap sprint race, grid in drawn order
3) Saturday: 10 lap sprint race, grid in reverse order to draw
4) Sunday: work out grid positions. Mean position over 2 races
determines grid position, if two people have the same mean position
then order is determined by the aggregate of the fastest laps from the
two races
5) Monday: [1] after working that lot out, have the race. The cars
start with the fuel load that they will start the race with. No
mid-air refuelling allowed.

There's also 2 45-minute practice sessions on both Friday and Saturday
(ie. a total of 4 practice sessions).

So the engines will have to cope with 3 hours of practice, two sprint
races, and the race. Twice, if the two-weekend rule is brought in
(which I hope it isn't).

[1] I may be lying for humorous effect

That sounds like a winner to me. Imagine seeing the quick guys having to
make up places from the back in just 10 laps?!? I bet Renault would love
that with their launch control.

I hope it's introduced, as it's a world better than what we have at the
moment. Would be good for attendances at the tracks on Fridays and
Saturdays too.

Thanks a lot for the explanation BTW.

Brilliant! I love it! The only problem I see is that the qualifying
is going to be the big spectacle, and the race will be as tedious as
it is today. Still, at least that's 2 days I'll bother to turn on the
TV rather than 0, as is the case this year.

Thanks for this, Mike.

What drugs were they taking when they thought that lot up? The race
would definitely be boring - racing between the four drivers left alive
after the sprints.
