Hi,
In our house we have a Sky dish which isn't used at the moment (we had NTL installed when we moved in). In my old place, I used to have Sky, which was disconnected after a while (lost interest), but I was still able to get the Freesat channels through the dish and sky box. I thought it would be a good idea to just bring my old sky box over and connect it to the old Sky system in this house. However it wouldn't work, it just said "No satellite signal is being recieved". Is there any way we can get this to work? Do we need to call Sky, or get a new viewing card or something? We don't know much about the old Sky dish to be honest, we're just assuming that it works...! Thanks for any advice Rachel |

Make sure it is pointing in the right direction and that the LNB and downlead are ok - and that the connections are all watertight! Try your box on a known good dish to make sure it is still working. |

I agree that it is likely to be problem with your dish, LNB or cabling. Try connecting your box to a friend's system, that is known to be working. CARE - you should disconnect from the mains before you disconnect or reconnect co-ax cables, Scart leads, etc. If your Sky receiver has not been used "for a while", the software will probably be out of date. On its own, old software should not produce the error message, "No satellite signal is being received". If your box does work, when connected to a different dish, I recommend you perform a forced software update, before you decide whether to attempt a DIY repair of the dish - or before you employ a contractor to check your installation. For instructions on a forced software upgrade, see http://tinyurl.com/8vef5 (Paragraph 31). Because the box has not been used for a while, you should perform the entire upgrade procedure, from the part that reads, "Remove your card. Switch the box off at the mains. Press and hold the backup button down ... " |

Once you have checked that your box is working and have upgraded it via a known good satellite dish, you can reconnect it to your dish and if it doesn't immediately work, go into the system settings menu and look at the signal strength. I can't remember the details, but a quick search around the web should give you the details you need to be seeing in the 4 fields if you are locked to the right satelitte. |

I'll lay a bet it's "What LNB"!
Seriously be careful if so, as the cable will act as a hose! |

Thanks everyone, I'll check all the connections and test my box on a
friend's system. I hope I can get it working as it would be so much easier than getting a regular aerial wired into the bedroom just for a decent picture quality & freeview. |

It could be that you have an analogue receiver with a dish pointing at Sky's digital satellite or vice versa. |
