I generally like Steve Jobs but he's being a faggot by locking the
iPhone to 02

I was at the Apple Store on Regent street at about 7pm

There were LOADS of staff on the shop floor (way more than normal)

As I went in there was a tv crew at the entrance asking me if i wanted
to buy an iphone. i said 'no' (I was drawn in by all the media, police
in luminous jackets and private security guys including this one black
dude who was the size of a house)

I actually started to cringe when apple staff started cheering as
people left the counters (when they had finished the purchase). So
far... loads of media people and apple staff, who seemed genuinely
excited.

(The Apple staff looked properly excited - not like they were acting
or being sales people)

Then I went to play with a display model.

Then the PENNY DROPPED. I have read about the iPhone for the past few
months and thought 'meh'. I used it for a few mins and fell in love
with it. The menus/interface/navigation is superb. Guess what - I even
bought one!!! on a whim.

(Actually i got a refund on it. I'm going to wait until the jailbreak
is out for 1.1.2. either that or get an ipod touch 16gb. )

I am an Apple fan but so far have always thought the iphone was a bit
gay. I actually got a little annoyed hearing about it over and over
on MacBreak Weekly, Mac OS Ken and the MacCast etc.

Now that I have held one in my hand, I find myself wanting it really
badly. I find myself loading tuaw.com every few mins to see if the the
Jailbreak for 1.1.2 is there.

By the way, outside the store on Regent Street there were some young
girls (prob about 16/17years old) with grey/silver puffer jackets.
They were plastered with the logo 'www.iphoneunlockuk.com'. They were
quite pretty.

It seems some company or individual is renting office space at Regus
(which is VERY close to the regent street store) and offering to do an
unlock.

That actually annoys me a bit. The iphone dev team are doing all this
for free and someone is profiting from their hard work.

Anyway, in summary: descriptions of this product don't do it justice.
I was actually starting to get embarrassed at all the Apple fans
raving about how great this is. I thought they were coming across as
total faggots on the news. But now I get it

By the way, maybe it was just on Friday evening but there will this
one smoking hot Apple employee. She's in her early 20s with shoulder
length black hair. She's about a size 8 or 10 and quite petite.

I kind of do hope that the iPhone 'flops'. I think apple is getting a
little arrogant/cocky.

So you never bought one! You probably can't afford to.

How can a phone be "gay" ? How old are you! That's the sort of thing
people used to say in school playgrounds as it was a naughty word. You were
the one who claimed to have bought the phone!
It's more acceptable now, so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

With all the silly references to "gay" is it still the phone you are talking
about?

Well i am glad you're getting it. There is no need to make your silly
comments.

So she will be quite safe with you around by the comments you have been
making.

Dude! You are seriously homophobic! Are you a closet case or what?
Jobs is being a faggot (hey, you should never call anyone a faggot,
just as you should never call anyone a derogatory inflammatory name -
do it privately if you can't control your own prejudices but not in a
public forum like this because people just see you as a jerk). You
always saw the iPhone as "gay"? Again, what is that?

The iPhone is totally amazing! I bought six of them for each one of
my employees back on June 29th and I'm still dazzled by the thing! It
is in my pocket more than my own wallet is and I used it all day long
for music, calls, emails, watch movies at lunch - the uses are never
ending!

It seems your biggest complaint is that the iPhone is tied to O2.
Here in the US it is tied to AT&T and we hate AT&T something fierce
but Jobs went to all of the cell phone carriers and none of them
wanted to touch the iPhone, only AT&T would take the chance and would
accept Jobs' financial terms. And I gotta tell ya guy, I don't have a
beef with their service. It's been stellar for me and all of my
employees. I pay about $75 a month for each iPhone service contract.
That's about $20 more then what I was paying T-Mobile for their weak
service. The extra $20 is well worth the ease and beauty of the
iPhone.

So you say your going to go the way of hacking so you can have your
choice of providers but you should consider just exactly what you're
doing to yourself and to your iPhone and to the rest of the iPhone
community. To yourself you'll be losing features and obtaining faulty
service. You won't have selective voicemail because it can only be
provided by the authorized cell phone provider (O2 had to install
special Apple servers). No YouTube (so what? Ok, go sit in an
airport for three hours waiting for a plane and know that you could
kill an hour easy just watching YouTube vids). SMS Texting - again,
tied to the cell phone provider's use of Apple servers. And a few
other items that escape me but all are important.

And what are you doing to your iPhone by listening to the hackers.
Well, you're always going to be stuck at an upgrade level that is far
behind every valid iPhone user. That means you'll never get all the
new features Apple is going to give the iPhone for free down the road
and believe me, once the hacking community has a good toe-hold they
won't be offering their hacks for free. They are already charging
people as much as $25 for special hacking software to install other
hacker's programs. And, of course, those other hackers are going to
charge you a fee so you'll end up paying more money for your iPhone
and its related services and programs then the valid iPhone user with
an O2 account will.

And finally what you are doing to the rest of the iPhone community.
Apple isn't going to introduce new apps and programs for the iPhone
until they can be assured the iPhone customer is well protected and
the iPhone is considerably secure. So that means Apple engineers are
going to be continually dealing with the 12-year old hackers and
plugging up whatever holes those hackers use to "do it their way"
instead of working on new apps and programs for the real iPhone
community.

But what do you care, huh dude? To you, the iPhone is "gay" and
innovators like Jobs is being a "faggot", right?

The best advice I can offer you is this: sell your iPhone now. Buy a
freaking iTouch if you want a touch iPod and video player then walk
over to the Cell Phone Warehouse and sign up for a cheapy cell phone
service and they will give you a cheesy cell phone. You can then
carry around two things to do your business instead of the most
innovative gadget of the year like the rest of us are going. And
trust me here, the iPhone is not going to fail. It is "the" product
to own and have - and the nice thing about it is that the damn thing
just plain works like the piece of art it is. And if that's gay then
big freakin' deal. :-)

I refunded it because I anticipated that I would be able to exploit a
TIF vulnerability to jailbreak & unlock the iphone, but this is not
possible (at present) with Version 1.1.2.

Also, I quite fancy the iPod Touch because the headphone socket isn't
recessed. I'll be able to use my kickass headphones with that (not
possible on iphone without some ugly adapter)

Also there is free wifi where I work and where i study. so i can
jailbreak it, install Mail.app and have a far superior experience than
having an iPhone.

Also, as I travel in London a lot I don't want to be a spaz and get
mugged. I already have candybar nokia phones (supplied by work)

So, prick, hope you understand that.

It is still in the lexicon. it is used widely in the mainstream media
and different sub-cultures. Watch south Park it's used in this context
all the time.

Yes I thought it was totally gay until I held an iphone in my hand and
navigated the menus. It's fucking sweet. It's so easy to use even a
chick could do it

It's just a complement. I mean given the choice between her and an
iPhone, I'd definitely do her, but the iPhone would be the next thing
on my want list. Most apple staff are geeks/men/ugly birds but this
one was smokin' hot. maybe she's just there for the Iphone launch.
Anyway, I really want to fuck her.

A majority of us don't have the option of buying an iPhone on a whim.
We have contracts with other cell phone companies.

Fortunately, other companies will learn from Apple's design and we
won't always be left out in the cold.

"Gay" used to be a pretty useful word with a different meaning.

Judging from the majority of his posts, I doubt he did either. Shouldn't
think he's old enough to get a contract without his parents'/guardian's
signature anway...

One might say that an iPhone is painted with gay cabalistic symbols.

Software/firmware hack that breaks the lock to O2 (and screws the phone up,
preventing further official firmware upgrades, AIUI)

Sorry, just read more carefully. Jailbreak allows you to run 'unauthorised'
software on the iPhone.

My view on the iPhone is this. Excellent interface but the phone is
still only 2G. All this hype and the sheep follow...oh Mr. Jobs it is
so good of you to allow us to buy an iPhone... It's going to cost £900
and when I've paid that I will have to continue paying O2 for a poor
value contract because I can't use my phone on another network..... oh
it's such a privilege Baaaaaaaaaaa Baaaaaaaaaa.

Until you hold one in your hand and use it you don't really get a
sense of how desirable it is. Being an Mac fan (I like Mac laptops and
the Mac OS - I use both windows and mac) I listen to US based tech
podcasts. They talked about iPhones all the time.. it got annoying. It
wasn't even like they had a financial motivation to go on and on about
it.

It is a giant leap forward, but the 02 contract totally sucks. No way
am i locking myself into that contract.

Reason 1 -
Recently, in the UK, a very creepy law was passed that allows anyone
in government/council to obtain details of who you call etc. A lot of
personal stuff is on there. Even if it is that I make frequent calls
to my ex (i.e. nothing illegal just personal - no-one elses business
but mine).

Reason 2
The fucking price. Here in the UK, Three have been blinding us with
very good offers. Like 2000 minutes & 2000 texts for £25 or something
crazy like that.

Before the UK launch, apple closed a loophole in the iPhone that
allowed you to 'unlock' it in seconds (without using a computer or any
technical knowledge)

Apple can go suck my cock. There's no fucking way I'm signing up to an
18 month contract.

When Steve Jobs was younger he sold equipment that allowed people to
make free phone calls on the AT&T network. He's sold out. He's being a
total faggot. He's on the board at Disney, Pixar and ofcourse Apple.
Those execs need private jets, hookers and coke - they don't pay for
themself you know.

And here's why Apple will lose.

Say they have 10,000 employees at their head offices (total guess)
working on keeping the iPhone locked.

There are 100,000 + people out there (nerds) who will work on breaking
that *in their spare time*. their combined efforts will eclipse
anything that those cocksuckers at apple come out with.
