The Pope, with the kind of self-awareness we’ve come to expect… The global financial crisis is proof that the pursuit of money and success is pointless, Pope Benedict XVI has told a meeting of bishops in Rome. The head of the Roman Catholic Church said that the disappearance of money as banks collapsed showed that wealth meant “nothing”. The Pope said that people should instead base their lives on God’s word. Tell you what, Benedict? You first. Let this hellbound heretic remind the pontiff of what the scripture says. Luke 9: 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. 9:2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 9:3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. |

Religion is big business. You wouldn't expect the pope to see point out the irony in that. Evil Nigel firemonkey wrote: [..] |

That basic point has already caused more than one rebellion against the Vatican from inside the Roman church over the centuries, and plenty of splitting. Not for nothing do raving nutters like Ian Paisley call the Pope the anti-Christ. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Christ> `In Christian eschatology, the Antichrist or anti-Christ means a person, office, or group recognized as fulfilling the Biblical prophecies about one who will oppose Christ and substitute himself in Christ's place.' Think about it - the Pope assumes religious authority in the name of Christ (sounds a bit like substituting himself in Christ's place, yes?), and, if you read the Bible, is clearly going against plenty of the teachings of Jesus. But because I don't want to agree with poisonous jerks like the `Reverend' `Doctor' Paisley, I shan't say I quite hold with the above view. Rowland. |
