I was on a 0932 Newark-Leeds Advance some days ago, and the seat reservation
before I joined listed Grantham-Newark, a 14 mile, 11 minute journey. Anyone know which is the shortest journey where you can have a reserved seat? |

My nominstions are: Worcester Shrub Hill to Worcester Foregate Street (on FGW HST services) Edinburgh Waverley to Haymarket (all long-distance services) Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Oxford Road (TPE and EMT services). |

Rather OTT, but does anyone know if people still use the railway bridge between the two stations to bypass going down into the valley to get to the pubs from the youth hostel there? We saw that many people used in in this manner back in 1976, and the train drivers who we saw on the few trains that ran on the line were not apparently phased at all by this use of the bridge. |

There are a couple of TPX services that call at both Deansgate and Manchester Oxford Road. |

Not that anyone intentionally reserves that, but it can be a leg of a long distance journey via Nottingham and on Advance tickets it will reserve the Beeston - Nottingham bit by default. Similar short hops happen all over the country I think, so long as the hop is a train with reservations. David |

I believe there is a separate footbridge now. Pity, I enjoyed that trip quite a few years back. Half way across two RAF Jaguars came up the valley, popped up over the bridge and disappeared. The timetable said there was no train due but I wasn't quite ready for low flying aircraft! |

I'll try again as it seems to be lost in the ether.
Luton Airport Parkway to Luton by EMT. 00:15 (Tue.-Sat.) calls both. Current TT shows it ''MER'' I'm sure that was HST previous TT perhaps I should have done the move :o) |

Other candidates include Bath-Bristol and Wakefield to Leeds. Until around Operation Princess you could even have had Crossgates-Leeds as 1 HST called there in the mornings! |

We all buy tickets and reservations for that journey on a specific train and day day (Thurs coming poss too soon for anyone who wants to actually be sent the tickets). Will confuse whoever has to label the train, at least until someone tells them what's going on, and you can even get the tickets (and reservation) posted out for a souvenir! - or arrange to collect them at your nearest Fastticket machine. A few extra pennies for ScotRail, and a minor kink in the usage figures for the service that day. Anyone fancy picking a date? |

I'm guessing the occaisional TPX service that stops at all stations between Piccadilly to the Airport could be on the list |
